Singapore’s Flag – What do the colours mean?

Published by StraitsCanopy on

National day is coming up and celebrating is all around us. Before we go off indulging in too many satay sticks lets take a look at the flag of our little red dot.

What do the colours of the Singapore flag mean? Lets fill you in. The red of the flag represents brotherhood and unity while the white stands for purity and goodness. The crescent moon and stars represent a young growing nation (only 49 years old this year!) and the stars are for democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.

Singapore got her independence on August 9, 1965 and we couldn’t be prouder of all this little country has achieved.

Wave your flags madly this year and now you can quote what the flag stands for should anyone ask.

Happy Birthday Singapore!
