Goddess Glow | New Year, New Beginnings, New You!

“How to set yourself up for success, how to lose weight in 21 days, join a gym, get fit, the three day detox, quit smoking, start exercising, drink less, eat more veggies …. again!”

Why is it that it’s been a whole year since my last resolution and I’m still not that skinny, happy, yoga-loving chia-seed eater and marathon winner?! I clearly remember paying thousands of dollars for the gym membership last January and throwing out the junk food! But wait…yes that’s right…somehow by March I had unexplainably lost the gym card and washing all the parts of the fancy juicer I got for Christmas turned out to be really time consuming.

So how do we kick start the new year and actually stick to our resolutions?! Well, we gave it a think and realized that maybe instead of a kick start, how about being a bit humble and set long term goals instead? Start by asking WHY and what do I want? Get clear with your reasons and why you want the change. Be realistic and stick to what would work with your lifestyle. Don’t join the cross-fit team just because your friend swears by it!

Remember that it’s about nurturing your body and soul, so make sure to do something you actually ENJOY. Getting active doesn’t have to be a boring must! Make your goal fun by incorporating it into something you love. Trust us girls and boys- you’ll get more fit by dancing crazy in your living room three times a week, rather than by running four times a week, if you don’t like to run in the first place. “Traditional” resolutions normally don’t work, as you are most likely having a very hard time putting your heart into your goals.

You are what you eat. An oldie but goldie. Yes ladies, we admit that it truly hurts to cut back on the ice cream and chocolate sometimes, but we also discovered that by focusing on what to add (of the good stuff that is), rather than forcing yourself to drastically remove the bad stuff all at once, your body will automatically crave more greens and want less sugar. But deprive yourself of your favorite food and your soul will starve as well! No good.

One habit you should try to develop this year is to make sure that you start your day off right. If you make a health conscious decision in the morning you will most likely find yourself making better choices during the day. Begin each glorious, glowing day with hot water and lemon, as this will kick start your digestion process and cleanse your liver. In Chinese medicine, lemon water is said to help unblock stagnant and impure chi in your body. Lemons can aid in weight loss as they are alkaline and high in pectin fiber, which fights hunger cravings. Get going with an alkaline diet and you may very well lose those post-Christmas pounds in a jiff!

Even though it may take a few minutes to clean the juicer, Straits Canopy believe in the power of green and we love to sip on our veggie juice or smoothie throughout the day-yes, sip and more importantly savour each gulp. We just love love love this Silky Green Smoothie that we found thanks to the ever Crazy Sexy Kris Carr! And if you do struggle every now and then, remember what Winston Churchill once said: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

Don’t give up! Straits Canopy is right here cheering for you!
